Catapult Machinery RoomThe catapult consists of a steam-operated piston that pushes a "shuttle" down a 250-foot track on the flight deck. The nose-gear of the aircraft is hooked to the shuttle, which accelerates aircraft weighing 30+ tons from 0 to 180 MPH in 2.5 seconds.
