Parachute Flare Locker

USS Enterprise flight deck ordnancemen are loading parachute flares into a flare locker off the forward catwalks. These pyrotechnic devices are used for nighttime illumination of target areas, and can light up an area nearly a mile wide when dropped from an aircraft. The parachute flares and many other pyrotechnics are stored in lockers on the side of the ship for safety reasons.
