You are looking down inside the hangar bay with the flight deck area removed. The stern end of the ship is at the top of the photo; the front bow is at the bottom. The giant divider doors that separate the hangar deck into Hangar Bay 1 (forward) and Hangar Bay 2 (aft) are painted with a mural that depicts previous USS Enterprise ships throughout the Navy's history. CVN-65 is the seventh ship in the Navy's fleet to be named Enterprise.
The large areas off the side of the hull contain the electrical wiring for the lighting in the scale model. In the actual ship, these areas contain offices, workspaces, berthing areas, storage spaces, mechanical rooms, holding tanks, and an occasional empty sealed off compartment known as a void.
