plank owner, i reported aboard at newport news . i remember going to the gate carrying my seabag and asking the guard where the enterprise was. he said go the the water and turn right, its the biggest thing there. i was walking along behind what i thought was a building until i saw the name on the fantail. then i went up the wrong gangway. nice start. dt3

I've added two photos of the Big E in drydock. Click the link below to see them.
Thank you very much, AT2 Mike Petersen, for the nice photos.
And thank you, Mr. Philip D. Tuckey, Senior Project Engineer at Newport News Shipbuilding, for providing me with a wealth of information regarding the 1991 Overhaul.
I've got a few dozen more Enterprise photos I'll be putting up on the site sooner or later, as soon as I get around to digging them out and scanning them. If you'd like to be notified when they are up, just shoot me an e-mail.

I was on the USS Enterprise when she took off on her maiden voyage...I remember standing there watch them put her in the water and thinking that there was no way she'd ever float she was so big.Is there anyone out there that was there the same time I was?

Thanks for the most interesting site. I'm doing a research project on the CVN-65 fire in 1969. Need to know where ship was repaired and arrival/departure dates at repair facility. Can you help?
Thanks, Tom Hayes
